Championing Families
Helping women and children find freedom from domestic abuse.
Safe Haven Ministries
Safe Haven Ministries began in 1990 with a very important mission: to end domestic abuse. Motivated by Christ’s love, they provide a place of refuge and support for women and children throughout West Michigan who have experienced or who are currently experiencing domestic abuse.
Safe Haven’s services include emergency shelter housing, support groups, case management, children’s programming, safety planning, and additional resources to educate and empower their clients to begin their healing journey. They also provide a 24/7 hotline to help individuals needing shelter and support.
In one year, Safe Haven served 431 women and 46 children, answered 2,114 calls made to the hotline, and provided 5,690 nights of safety in their emergency shelter.
With a strong belief that ending abuse starts with prevention and education, Safe Haven provides a variety of training and assistance programs, with a strategic focus on high school and middle school students. They currently provide healthy relationship education classes in over 50 classrooms across 14 different schools. During the last academic year, Safe Haven impacted 1,644 students, and equipped them with the necessary skills to promote safe and healthy relationships within their schools and communities.
The Doug and Maria DeVos Foundation is a supporter of Safe Haven Ministries Empower the Journey Capital Campaign, which will help build a new facility, increase shelter space, and enhance client services.
