The Art of Family Living is an annual event sponsored by Gatherings of Hope (GoH) as part of their Family Leadership Initiative. It not only gets families talking about art together – it gets them making art together.
This faith-based curriculum is used by GoH partner congregations in the greater Grand Rapids area featuring works of art from the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM).
Before the event, churches use a curated series of iBooks, available in both English and Spanish, to explore how art at the GRAM expresses values such as love, spirituality, honesty, discipline, friendship, potential, mercy, courage, and loyalty.
A member of each congregation is trained as a GRAMbassador, and will lead families through the galleries to explore the art in person.
During the event, the GRAM workshop studio is available for families to get messy and create artwork together. A local professional photographer is also on hand to take fun family portraits. It’s a great event, full of curiosity, laughter, and conversation.
